Nearly 300,000 applicants began studies in Ukrainian universities at the bachelor and master levels, reported the Ministry of Education and Science. In total, more than 1 million students started the new academic year at higher education institutions.
Applicants for bachelor and medical, pharmaceutical, and veterinary master programs submitted over 1,200,000 applications for competitive offers. The algorithm generated 212,837 recommendations – 73,129 for budget and 139,708 for contract – and 222,342 applicants were admitted: 70,510 on budget and 151,832 on contract. 96.4% of budget recommendations resulted in admission, with 72% of applicants receiving a budget recommendation as the first priority.
6,132 applicants used quota‑2 – special admission conditions for applicants from temporarily occupied territories and active combat zones. The largest number of admissions were in management, psychology, secondary education, philology, and marketing.
More than half of first‑year students – 57.2% – were admitted to the five largest educational centers:
- Kyiv;
- Lviv;
- Odessa;
- Kharkiv;
- Dnipro.
At the same time, 29% of all applications were submitted to institutions in pre‑frontline regions.
49,475 budget students were admitted to specialties with special state support – half of all newly admitted students on state orders, including future teachers, engineers, builders, and farmers.
Applicants for master programs submitted 215,408 applications, resulting in 80,312 recommendations, and 72,489 applicants have already been admitted. Almost all budget recommendations for master’s programs – 98.9% – resulted in admission.
This year, state grant support is being offered for the first time for master’s programs: applicants with the best results in the Unified State Exam (USE), Unified State Exam for Foreigners (USEF), or Unified State Exam for International Candidates (USEIC) can receive grants of 27,000 or 40,000 hryvnia per academic year.
From September 1, academic scholarships for students of higher and vocational pre‑higher education institutions will double. The main admission stage is already complete, but the admission campaign will continue until October 20 – applicants who did not receive a recommendation or did not meet its conditions can still participate in the competitive selection for vacant contract positions.
