The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine determined the 10 most popular male and female names given to newborns in the first half of 2026.
Among the girls, the leaders were:
- Sofia;
- Zlata;
- Milana;
- Emilia;
- Anna;
- Anastasia;
- Polina;
- Maria;
- Solomiya;
- Eva.
Boys were most often named:
- Artem;
- Oleksandr;
- Matvii;
- Maksym;
- Tymofii;
- Bohdan;
- Davyd;
- Yaroslav;
- Roman;
- Dmytro.
The name Sofia is among the most popular in most regions – from Vinnytsia and Volyn to Odesa and Kharkiv. Artem and Oleksandr are included in the lists of the most popular in the central, western, and eastern regions. Zlata and Milana are more often chosen in the west and center of the country, and Matvii and Tymofii – in the western regions.
Along with traditional names, there is a trend towards choosing unique variants – double combinations, foreign, exotic, biblical, and ancient Ukrainian names.
Among the less common variants are double combinations Adelaide-Loredana, Mariam-Nicolette, Daniel-Arthur Theophim, and Roman-Nurislam. Parents also chose foreign names Aysel, Patricia, Liam, and Sebastian, religious – Avigeya, Solomon, Seraphim, and Veniamin, and historical – Roksolana, Vladomira, Svyatohor, and Tamerlan.
