In Zaporizhzhia, a new air threat alert system is being introduced – emergency messages will automatically appear on top of all applications or on a locked phone screen. This was reported by the head of the Zaporizhzhia OVA, Ivan Fedorov.
For this, the Cell Broadcast technology will be used. The alert will be accompanied by a loud sound signal and will work in Kyivstar, Vodafone, and Lifecell networks. No additional applications or internet connection are required for this.
The “Air Alert” application will also be updated – the alerts will show the fact of the alert and the type of air threat. During the threat of UAV strikes, the signal from street loudspeakers will sound for 5 minutes instead of approximately 3.
Patrol police will be involved in the notification. Crews with loudspeakers will patrol the central streets of Zaporizhzhia and inform residents of the threat of using UAVs.
In 2022, the SES tested the information system through mobile phones using Cell Broadcast technology instead of SMS. The testing involved Kyivstar, Vodafone, and Lifecell subscribers in 17 regions of Ukraine and in Kyiv.
