Private minibuses in Kyiv are increasing their fares to 25 UAH from July 15 – a decision made following a fourfold increase in prices in the city’s public transport. Announcements about the new prices have already appeared in the salons of some minibuses, according to the public organization “Passengers of Kyiv”.
On route number 241, the cost of travel will increase from 10 to 20 UAH. On other routes, fares will rise from 20 to 25 UAH.
Despite the increase, a single trip on a private minibus will remain cheaper than a ride on public transport – 25 UAH versus 30 UAH for a ticket.
Activists note that the price difference will encourage passengers to choose minibuses to save money. In their opinion, this will increase the profits of private carriers, while public transport will mainly transport privileged passengers and accumulate more losses.
