Ukrainian Red Cross wins European victory for innovation in first aid

The Ukrainian Red Cross has won in the category of “Innovative First Aid and Resuscitation” among European national societies. The organization received the award based on the results of the regional selection for the 2026 First Aid World Cup, which is conducted by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

The competition in the qualifying stage was high. 162 teams from 85 national Red Cross and Red Crescent societies competed for the title of the best. The Ukrainian Red Cross was noted by the jury for its innovative solutions, modern approaches to first aid training, effective strategies for responding to emergencies, and its contribution to community development.

One example of an innovative approach was the scientifically grounded methodology for teaching first aid to people with physical disabilities, which was developed by the Ukrainian Red Cross. The methodology adapts first aid techniques to the needs of people with physical disabilities and promotes the formation of an inclusive society where everyone can master vital skills.

The organization is systematically developing inclusive education in other areas as well. In 2023, the Ukrainian Red Cross presented the first book on first aid in Braille, and in 2024, its adapted version for children. These publications made first aid training more accessible to people with visual impairments.

The victory in the selection opens the way to the next stage. Ahead of the winners is the Global Final of the First Aid World Cup in Dubai, where the Ukrainian team will present its developments to an international audience of humanitarian leaders, donors, and partners.

The international award was a recognition of the daily work of the Ukrainian Red Cross instructors, volunteers, and employees. They implement modern and inclusive approaches to training, develop a culture of readiness for emergencies, and make vital knowledge accessible to everyone.
