Ukraine has received 60,000 doses of the PENTA-Hib vaccine to protect children from five dangerous diseases. This is reported by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. The shipment will ensure protection for children against five serious infectious diseases. The vaccine, which helps combat diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B, and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), was delivered by UNICEF Ukraine with support from the Government of Japan through the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine.

The PENTA-Hib vaccine is a combination product that includes a whole-cell pertussis component. This means it protects children from five diseases with a single injection, making the vaccination process more convenient and effective. Vaccination is a crucial element of prevention and helps reduce the risk of serious complications and mortality from these infectious diseases.
Current Situation
Since the beginning of 2024, Ukraine has recorded 5,602 cases of pertussis, which is a 27-fold increase compared to the same period last year. There has also been one case of diphtheria and eight cases of tetanus. These diseases can be life-threatening, making timely vaccination extremely important.
Access to the Vaccine
Vaccination against these diseases is included in the National Vaccination Schedule and is free of charge for the population. Free vaccinations are available at both public health facilities and private clinics that have agreements with the National Health Service of Ukraine.
