In Sestri Levante, Italy, on July 11, the volunteer organization “La Baia delle Favole” together with the Italian-Ukrainian association “Heroiam Slava” will show the play “Mazepa. Hero of Byron and Ukraine, between literature, music, art, history and modernity” – the only fully dedicated to Hetman Mazepa production in Italy.
The event will take place at 21:00 in the open-air amphitheater “Conchiglia”, admission is free and by donation.
The program of the evening combines Ukrainian and European components of the image of Mazepa. The play will open with Cossack and Ukrainian songs and dances featuring a soprano, tenor, violinist, pianists, dancers, the ensemble “Troisti Muzyki”, the choir “Ukraine” and the dance collective “Zirka Ukrainy”.
Then, a piano version of Franz Liszt’s symphonic poem “Mazepa” will be performed by Carlo Solinas, and a literary recital of Byron’s poem “Mazepa” will be performed by actor Riccardo Monopoli, accompanied by Gabriele Bologna, with a video accompaniment by Sergei Magli.
The evening will also include a 15-minute video that combines the history and legend of Mazepa with the modern chronicle of Ukraine. The director of the production is Gabriele Dallara, the technical director for sound, video and light is Luka Daneri, and the author of the graphic project is Viktoria Danieva.
The event is held under the patronage of the municipality of Sestri Levante with the participation of representatives of the Liguria region. An invitation has been sent to the Ukrainian authorities, but their participation has not been confirmed.
All donations collected during the evening will be fully donated to a Ukrainian children’s hospital to support children affected by the war.
