On the night of July 6, a Russian missile strike damaged the National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine – the blast wave damaged a historic windmill from the village of Yunakivka in the Sumy region, according to the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.
The windmill, dated 1933-1934, is part of the “Polissia” exposition, which represents the traditional architecture and way of life of the Ukrainian region.
The damage was recorded by the National Police of Ukraine. Currently, museum staff are assessing the damage and preparing documentation necessary for repair and restoration work.
Experts have found a shift in the shingle part of the roof relative to the main structure. The blast wave also damaged the blades and their mounts, which, according to specialists, cannot be restored.
This is another crime against our heritage and further evidence of Russia’s systemic war against Ukrainian culture. The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine records the consequences of the attack, coordinates the work to protect the monument, and continues to inform international partners about Russia’s crimes against Ukrainian culture.
