Doctors from the Lviv Regional Clinical Perinatal Center, together with their Polish colleagues, performed an intrauterine surgical intervention to correct a congenital defect in the fetus at 16 weeks of pregnancy.
The woman is under the care of the institution. During an ultrasound examination, a defect in the child’s urinary system was detected, which threatened their life.
The pregnancy could only be saved in one way – by operating on the child while still in the womb.
The intervention was performed by pediatric surgeon Galina Kurylo and Professor Przemyslaw Kosinski of the Clinical Center of the Warsaw Medical University. The operation was complicated by the fact that there was almost no amniotic fluid left.
Under ultrasound control, the doctors performed intrauterine stenting. This eliminated the threat to the fetus’s life and restored the conditions for its development.
The pregnant woman remains under the supervision of the center’s multidisciplinary team until delivery. Ahead – the birth and further treatment of the congenital defect.
