Over 1 million domestic violence reports in 5 years – Opendatabot

Over the past 5 years, more than 1 million reports of domestic violence have been recorded in the Unified State Register of Domestic Violence and Gender-Based Violence – exactly 1,103,032 cases. This is according to data from Opendatabot.

The most cases were recorded in 2021 – 284,200. Since then, the number has been decreasing every year: last year, 113,400 reports were filed, and this year there have been 19,700 – an average of 6,600 per month, or a third fewer than during the same period last year, and 3.5 times fewer than in 2021.

The vast majority of reports traditionally come from women – this year they filed 15,737 reports, or about 80% of all cases. The share of reports from men remains stable at 14-16%.

The share of reports from children has increased significantly: if in 2021 they accounted for 2% of reports, this year it is already 6%. Children filed 1,239 reports, with every fifth report coming from Vinnytsia region – 270 cases.

Dnipropetrovsk region has been leading for the fourth year in a row – 2,216 reports. Next are Odesa region with 1,284 and Vinnytsia region with 1,277 reports.

At the same time, the situation has changed in some regions: in Chernivtsi region, the number of recorded cases has decreased sixfold over the past 5 years, in Kyiv – fivefold, and in Lviv and Volyn regions – fourfold.

Data is entered into the register by the National Police, local authorities, child services, medical and social institutions, and courts.
