The average expected salary for a school teacher is UAH 43,000, and for a higher education institution teacher – UAH 55,000. This was reported by the director of the SocioStream research company, Olena Boyarkina, while presenting the results of a survey on the conditions and pay of educators.
Almost 93% of respondents spoke in favor of increasing teachers’ salaries and consider this a priority for state policy. Another 90% of respondents called the teaching profession underpaid.
Boyarkina noted that during in-depth interviews, teachers themselves named lower salaries as fair pay compared to representatives of other professions.
According to her, teachers asked for salaries ranging from UAH 20,000, while representatives of other professions considered UAH 40,000 to 60,000 acceptable.
Almost 98% of respondents consider the teaching profession socially important. Over 90% pointed to the high responsibility, complexity of work, and significant social benefit of this profession, and 75% do not associate it with high income.
32% of respondents believe that the working day of an education worker is longer than in other professions, and another 39% believe it is the same.
Respondents associate the complexity of teachers’ work with preparing lessons, checking notebooks and laboratory work, creating electronic courses, working out classes after air alarms, and communicating with parents and students.
The survey involved 2006 respondents aged 18 to 59 years in the territory controlled by Ukraine, except for the 20-kilometer zone from the line of combat operations.
