Verkhovna Rada has for the first time created a full translation of the Constitution of Ukraine into Ukrainian sign language.
The goal of the translation is to make constitutional rights, freedoms, and norms more accessible and understandable for people with hearing impairments, as well as to promote the development of a barrier-free environment in Ukraine.
A team of 9 translators, who are proficient in different dialects of Ukrainian sign language, worked on the creation of the translation.
Experts in Ukrainian sign language and law specialists were involved in the project. The involvement of translators from different regions helped to make the text of the Constitution understandable for sign language speakers across the country.
The Constitution in sign language can be viewed on the Verkhovna Rada’s website.
The translation was timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of Ukraine, which was adopted on June 28, 1996.
