The Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Digital Transformation opened registration for participants in the beta testing of the divorce service through the Diia app.

The service will allow couples who have made a joint decision to divorce to go through the procedure remotely, without personal visits to the state registration authorities. This is expected to simplify the bureaucratic process, prevent stressful situations, and reduce the workload of the Civil Registration Office.

Citizens of Ukraine aged 18 and over who have mutual consent to divorce and do not have minor children will be able to use the service.

Participants will need an ID card or a biometric foreign passport with a verified tax number, a digital signature “Diia.Signature”, as well as a marriage registered in Ukraine, with data available in the State Register of Civil Status Acts.

One of the spouses will submit an application through the Diia app, and the other will confirm it using “Diia.Signature”. After verification of the data, a period of consideration of the decision will begin, which cannot be less than one month and two days from the date of application.

Then, a video conference with a Civil Registration Office employee will take place, during which the spouses will confirm their intention to divorce and sign an agreement using “Diia.Signature”. The act of divorce will automatically appear in the Diia app, and paper certificates will be sent by mail within Ukraine.

Couples with minor children will not be able to use online divorce – in such cases, divorce is only possible through the court.

An application to participate in the beta testing can be submitted at this link. The form must be filled out by both spouses.

The service is being developed by the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Digital Transformation with the support of the Swiss-Ukrainian program EGAP, which is implemented by the Eastern Europe Foundation.
