The Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, called on the Ministry of Education and Science to respond to the situation with a medalist and a biology Olympiad winner who is asking to retake the NMT after technical failures during the exam.

According to the participant, the problems started from the first minutes: the mouse did not work, the computer froze, and tasks were displayed incorrectly. Despite appeals to the instructors, the equipment was not replaced.

Years of preparation, victories in Olympiads, and the chance to enter a medical university are under threat due to a system that demands perfection from children but does not guarantee its own perfection.

After the exam, the girl and her mother appealed to the Vinnytsia Regional Center for Quality Education Assessment. They were told that it was impossible to resolve the situation.

The participant is asking to be allowed to take an additional NMT session — on proper equipment and under equal conditions.

When a student cannot retake an exam due to objective problems — it is no longer about assessing knowledge, but about the lack of fair procedures. This issue requires a direct reaction from the Ministry of Education

– Dmytro Lubinets.

Lubinets also drew attention to a broader problem: the NMT is increasingly testing not knowledge, but endurance and the ability to act within strict time frames.

To confirm this, he cited the example of a history teacher with 18 years of experience who took the test for the first time and received 183 points. She noted that some tasks went beyond the school curriculum, and her extensive experience worked against her: it forced her to analyze and check where the test required a quick choice.

The main session of the NMT-2026 started on May 20 and will last until June 25.
