Since the beginning of 2026, 560,053 heads of animals have been entered into the Unified State Register of Animals, each with a unique identification number. These figures reflect the scale of work on accounting for livestock, which depends on the control of animal health, food safety, and access for Ukrainian producers to external markets.

The structure of the registered livestock covers different types of farms. The largest share is cattle – 246,477 heads. 132,181 sheep and goats have been accounted for, 169,795 commercial pigs, 10,880 breeding pigs, and 720 horses have been registered. A separate indicator concerns the identification of commercial pigs before they leave the farms of legal entities, which reached 3,091,855 heads.

The identification system allows the state to monitor the epizootic situation, manufacturers to work according to transparent rules, and consumers to receive confirmed information about the safety of animal products. Registration gives owners access to state support programs and compensation mechanisms.

The accounting mechanism covers cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, and horses. Cattle, sheep, goats, and horses are assigned an individual number, unique within one species. A group identification number can be provided to a group of animals within one farm, and it remains unique for this farm in Ukraine. Information about the animal itself, its movement, slaughter, and death is entered into the Unified State Register of Animals.

Thanks to this system, specialists can quickly determine the origin of an animal, track its movement, localize the disease outbreak, and confirm compliance with international requirements. Registration and identification are carried out by specialists from the territorial bodies of the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection together with the State Enterprise “Agency for Identification and Registration of Animals”.

Legal entities apply to the regional branches of the Agency for Identification and Registration of Animals, while individuals apply to the state veterinary medicine hospitals of the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection in their region.
