A wooden suspension bridge over the Vyzhenka River in Bukovyna collapsed during a rest of a group of schoolchildren. The incident occurred on June 6 in the resort village of Vyzhenka, Vyzhnytsia district, Chernivtsi region.
According to previous police data, pupils of one of the sports schools in Kharkiv region were on vacation in the village. During a group photo shoot on the bridge, the structure suddenly collapsed, and the children fell down. Six minors aged 8 to 15 were injured. They were taken to a medical facility for examination and hospitalization. Law enforcement officials reported that the children’s lives are not in danger.
Investigators from the Vyzhnytsia district police department entered the information about the incident into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations and are investigating the circumstances of the children’s injuries. Units of the State Emergency Service were not involved in the elimination of the consequences of the incident.
Vyzhenka is a well-known tourist village in the Bukovyna Carpathians, popular among fans of green tourism and hiking routes. Wooden suspension bridges over mountain rivers remain a characteristic element of local landscapes and often become a place for tourists’ photos.
