Key points

The government approved changes that allow the formation of a buffer reserve of critically important medicines and medical products in Ukraine, purchased with state funds, and expanded the list of medical products for the treatment of oncological diseases.

From now on, the State Enterprise “Medical Procurements of Ukraine” will be able to store a stock of certain critically important medical products. The list of such positions will be determined by the Ministry of Health, and the volume of the reserve will be established separately for each position – taking into account the need, shelf life, and storage conditions.

The mechanism is being created, in particular, on the recommendations of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Health of the Nation. It is designed to ensure the continuity of treatment for patients in case of logistical disruptions or delays in the market.

For the patient, it is important not that the procurement system or logistics is complex, but that the necessary medicines or medical products are available on time.

Changes also expand the list of medical products for cancer patients. Abiraterone in a dosage of 500 mg for hormone therapy of malignant neoplasms, as well as medical products for chemotherapy: ported central venous catheters of two types – 6.5 Fr and 7 Fr – and Huber needles for working with port systems have been added to it.

Changes also clarify the units of measurement of medical products for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases – pieces, sets, and kits.
