AI develops vaccine for the first time, tested on humans

Key points

  • AI has developed a vaccine component against coronaviruses for the first time, which has been tested on humans.
  • The “superantigen” created by AI teaches the immune system to defend against an entire family of viruses, including new mutations.
  • The first trial involving 39 people showed a moderate but promising immune response.
  • The next stage will involve a study of about 200 people.
  • The authors position the development as a fundamentally new type of vaccine that can prevent future pandemics.

Artificial intelligence has developed a key component of a coronavirus vaccine for the first time, which has already been tested on humans. This was reported by the BBC.

Researchers took known genetic codes from several coronaviruses and submitted them for analysis by artificial intelligence.

Based on this data, AI developed a “superantigen” – a component that can teach the immune system to defend against an entire family of viruses, including new mutations and pathogens that can be transmitted from animals to humans.

The results of the first clinical trial involving 39 people are described in the Journal of Infection. The impact on the immune system was moderate, but the researchers assessed it as promising.

The next stage will be a study involving about 200 people. This will provide a more complete understanding of how effectively the vaccine forms immune protection.

Researchers call the vaccine a fundamentally new type of immune protection. They hope it will be able to prevent future pandemics. Currently, the work is at an early stage.
