The Verkhovna Rada adopted Resolution No. 15053 on the introduction of Ukrainian Music Day, which will be celebrated annually on the third Saturday of September.
The proposed date is related to the holding of the “Chervona Ruta” festival in 1989, which became a landmark event in the history of Ukrainian culture and modern Ukrainian music.
The new holiday is intended to honor the work of Ukrainian performers and all those who create the music industry, as well as to support cultural resistance during the war and strengthen the Ukrainian cultural space without Russian influence.
At the international level, Ukrainian Music Day is seen as an important instrument of Ukraine’s cultural diplomacy.
The proposal to introduce a memorial day was submitted to the people’s deputies by representatives of the music industry, in particular the Ukrainian Agency for Authors’ and Related Rights.
According to the head of the subcommittee on music industry issues of the Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy, Oleksandr Sanchenko, the professional community should have its own holiday for joint work on the development of the sphere.
