Veterans who, due to injuries, trauma, or severe illness, need constant help can receive free long-term medical care services.
The project is being implemented jointly by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, the Ministry of Health, and the National Health Service of Ukraine.
The NHSU has already contracted the first facilities where the service is available:
- Lutsk Regional Hospital for Veterans of War;
- Khmelnytskyi Regional Hospital for Veterans of War;
- Medical Center for Rehabilitation and Palliative Care in Kyiv.
Participants in combat actions and persons with disabilities due to war can use the service. It is provided to veterans who, due to their health condition, are fully or largely dependent on outside help – their functional state is determined by the Barthel scale.
The package includes:
- medical supervision and support;
- treatment and medication control;
- prevention of complications;
- pain relief;
- supportive rehabilitation;
- psychological, social, and spiritual support;
- help with hygiene and nutrition;
- family care training.
To receive help, you need to contact one of the contracted facilities directly with a statement, a certificate of the State Service of Ukraine for Veterans Affairs, or a person with a disability due to war, or an extract from the Unified State Register of Veterans of War, and a doctor’s referral.
If a veteran cannot apply personally, family members or a legal representative can do so.
The amount of funding depends on the level of need for outside care. For patients with a high level of dependency, more than 5,400 UAH is provided per care cycle, and for those with moderate dependency, more than 3,400 UAH.
