During a massive nighttime attack on Konotop in the Sumy region, a Russian drone directly hit the building of the Konotop City Local History Museum named after O.M. Lazarevsky, according to the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.
As a result of the strike, the roof, entrance doors, internal partitions, ceiling, floor, and all exhibition halls of the building were damaged.
The museum’s storage facility was not damaged.
The institution, located approximately 70 km from the border with the Russian Federation, had previously partially relocated museum items as part of the first two stages of evacuation – work was also underway to pack and remove further museum valuables.
Thank you to the museum staff and the community for their quick response, taking emergency measures, and responsible attitude towards preserving the museum’s collection. The massive and systematic nature of such attacks testifies to a targeted campaign to destroy Ukraine’s cultural heritage and identity.

Currently, museum staff are conducting a detailed analysis of the scale of the destruction and assessing the damage caused, as well as organizing the relocation of museum property.
After completing these measures, further steps will be determined to preserve and restore the object.
