Almost 69% of Ukrainian teachers remain satisfied with their profession choice, according to the UNESCO study “The Formation of a New Ukrainian Teacher”, presented in Kyiv.
At the same time, 73.2% of educators named low salary as the main reason for disappointment in the profession. Another 25.5% of surveyed teachers additionally engage in tutoring due to their income level.
The ‘New Ukrainian School’ reform is generally viewed positively by 53.7% of teachers.
A separate block of results concerns staff qualifications. 21.8% of teachers in Ukraine work without being assigned the “teacher” qualification, and 51% of school directors consider the lack of pedagogical training a risk of poor teaching quality.
The study analyzes the professional path of a teacher – from choosing a profession to career development in school. It was conducted by the UNESCO Representation in Ukraine at the request of the Verkhovna Rada and the Ministry of Education and Science.
The presentation took place as part of the event “Strengthening the Resilience of the Ukrainian Education System”. The results are intended to serve as the basis for recommendations on improving the career structure and system of teacher training.
