Ministry of Youth and Sports to fund projects by 24 civil society organisations promoting Ukrainian identity

The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine will allocate 18 million UAH to 37 winning projects to promote Ukrainian national and civic identity in 2026. This was announced during a briefing at Ukrinform on May 12.

24 civil society institutions will receive support. 17 of them are participating in the competition for the first time, while 7 have participated before.

The amount of state funding for this area has increased more than fourfold over the past 8 years, from approximately 4 million UAH in 2018.

This year, 170 proposals were submitted by 116 civil society institutions, the highest number in recent years, compared to 79 in 2025 and 120 in 2024.

The competition was held in 6 priority areas. The most proposals, 44, concerned the formation of civic identity based on societal and state values and the preservation of cultural heritage.

36 proposals dealt with defense awareness and civic resilience, 28 with the popularization of Ukrainian history, the struggle for statehood, and memory of defenders.

Some projects are dedicated to critical thinking and media literacy, as well as work with Ukrainians abroad, in temporarily occupied and adjacent territories.

The majority of competition participants represented Kyiv, Sumy, Lviv, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Odesa, and Poltava regions. The winning projects will be implemented in the regions of Ukraine, with some involving the creation of informational and educational content.

On May 15, 2026, the Ministry of Youth and Sports will hold an all-Ukrainian online training for the winning organizations on the use of budget funds, regulatory framework, and tender procedures.
