In Ukraine, the circle of persons who have the right to free implantable hearing aids at the expense of the state has been expanded. Now, the service can be received not only by children and adults with disabilities but also by military personnel and civilians who have suffered due to Russian aggression.
The right to free hearing aids applies to military personnel, members of the security and defense forces of Ukraine, as well as to individuals who, during the period of martial law, received injuries, concussions, disabilities, or illnesses as a result of the war.
The procedure itself has been simplified. A referral from an otologist is sufficient for surgery or replacement of the external part of the system — previously, a disability status and conclusions from special commissions were required.
Patients are provided with the external part of the system at the expense of the state and local budgets once every 5 years. This guarantees continuous rehabilitation and the availability of spare parts in case of a breakdown.
In the capital, hearing aid services within the framework of the Medical Guarantees Program are provided by the Communal Non-Profit Enterprise “St. Michael’s Clinical Hospital of Kyiv”, where the Department of Hearing and Speech Pathology “SUWAG” operates.
The department has a multidisciplinary team — neurologists, psychiatrists, otologists, audiologists, neuropsychologists, and music teachers for language stimulation.
