Ukrzaliznytsia is deploying a large-scale network of over 800 mobile protective shelters across the country. The program is being implemented as part of the company’s Resilience Plan — in response to the increasing number of attacks on railway infrastructure. Since the beginning of 2026, approximately 983 such attacks have been recorded.
The shelters are manufactured in-house at the company’s facilities. The modular design allows for rapid deployment where they are most needed: near critical railway infrastructure facilities and at stations without permanent shelters. The structures are designed for evacuation during air raids and protection against shrapnel during shelling.
The fact that these shelters save lives was confirmed yesterday. In the Kharkiv region, after an alert signal, a conductor managed to evacuate to a modular shelter — the carriage she was in was completely destroyed by a strike drone. The woman survived.
Ukrzaliznytsia continues to operate amidst armed conflict, ensuring uninterrupted train movement. The deployment of the shelter network is part of a systematic approach to protecting personnel who remain on the railway despite the constant aerial threat.
