Russian drones attacked Ukrzaliznytsia infrastructure in three regions on 5 May – in the Kharkiv, Poltava and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Rolling stock was damaged, with no casualties among railway staff or passengers, Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Development of Communities and Territories Oleksii Kuleba reported.
In the Kharkiv region, at around 07:30, an enemy UAV attacked and destroyed a railway carriage. The conductor managed to move into a mobile shelter after the monitoring centre raised the alert. The locomotive crew was also taken to safety.
In the Poltava region, a drone struck between the tracks next to a diesel locomotive. A carriage was damaged and the explosion caused a fire. There were no casualties.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, a UAV strike damaged an electric locomotive standing on the tracks. The train had been stopped in advance owing to the drone threat, so staff were warned in time and taken to a shelter.
