A session of Lviv City Council has approved an action plan to create an accessible urban environment in 2026.
The plan sets out 88 initiatives across six areas of accessibility:
- physical;
- informational;
- digital;
- social and civic;
- educational;
- economic.
From 1 September, Lviv schools will introduce lessons on inclusion. Wheelchair users and people with prosthetics will be invited to these classes so that pupils can learn more about the experiences of people with disabilities.
As part of the plan, the city will purchase 48 large 12-metre and 10 medium-sized low-floor buses. An accessible pedestrian crossing will also be set up at the junction of Halytska Street and Kniazia Romana Street.
Ramps and lifting platforms will be installed in municipal, educational and medical facilities, and existing lifts will be widened. Public transport stops and the entrances to various institutions will also be adapted.
Information about city services will be duplicated in Braille and translated into plain language. The plan also provides for the creation of accessible tour routes.
Funding will be provided from the city budget, as well as through loans and grants. All departments, district administrations and most municipal enterprises will be involved in carrying out the plan.
