Since the start of 2026, 11,630 free coronary stenting procedures have been performed in Ukraine under the Medical Guarantee Programme. Around 2,000 of these were planned interventions, while more than 9,000 were urgent, including those carried out for acute myocardial infarction.

From 2026, Ukraine has expanded access to free planned coronary stenting. The service is free for the patient, just as urgent stenting for acute myocardial infarction is.

The medical service is paid for by the National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSU), while stent systems are procured centrally by the state.

Currently, planned coronary stenting is provided by 79 medical facilities that have contracts with the NHSU under the relevant package.

Planned stenting is performed on patients with coronary heart disease in cases where medication is insufficiently effective or when examinations have revealed significant narrowing of the coronary arteries.

The procedure restores blood flow in the heart’s vessels and reduces the risk of serious complications.

The Ministry of Health noted that coronary heart disease remains one of the most widespread chronic conditions in Ukraine – more than 3.6 million Ukrainians live with this diagnosis. For some patients with significant narrowing of the vessels, planned stenting is a necessary method of treatment.

In 2025, Medical Procurement of Ukraine purchased more than 76,000 stent systems of various types – for the treatment of standard, multiple, complex and calcified coronary artery lesions. Some of these have already been delivered to hospitals, with the next delivery expected in the second quarter of 2026.

The list of medical facilities where the service can be obtained is available at the link.

Should patients be refused the free medical service, they can contact the NHSU contact centre on 16-77 or the Ministry of Health hotline on 0 800 505 201.
