Ukrzaliznytsia is launching six new children’s compartment carriages in partnership with Visa. The project involves the complete refurbishment of the rolling stock, the introduction of interactive solutions, and the creation of conditions for comfortable travel with children.
The first three carriages have already been refurbished and incorporated into trains No. 011/012 Lviv–Odesa and No. 001/002 Kharkiv–Ivano-Frankivsk. Tickets for the new carriages are available from Lviv from 24 April, from Odesa from 25 April, from Kharkiv from 2 May, and from Ivano-Frankivsk from 3 May. The other three carriages are being prepared for deployment on routes in the near future.

The maiden journey in the new carriages took the form of a special trip pulled by a vintage steam locomotive. The passengers were children supported by the charity Save Ukraine.
The carriages are equipped with features designed to meet the needs of children of all ages. Handrails have been fitted in the corridors to suit children’s heights, and safety guards have been installed on the upper shelves in the compartments. The toilets are fitted with changing tables and booster seats. For infants, there are playpens for sleeping and bottle warmers. A children’s menu is also available in the carriages, featuring cheesecakes or buckwheat nuggets.
Particular attention has been paid to accessibility. The carriages are equipped with folding ramps, which make boarding easier for passengers with pushchairs.
As part of the project, an audio story by Ukrainian writer Sashko Dermanksy will be produced. It will be broadcast in the carriages every evening after the train departs.
