Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute has opened a second enrolment to its “Veteran’s Master’s Programme”, where veterans will study engineering and work on creating prosthetics. The course is free of charge, and students can receive a grant and a monthly scholarship.
The training combines online lectures with offline practice. One of the programme’s goals is to address the shortage of prosthetics specialists in Ukraine.
The programme runs in two stages. Participants first take an introductory course titled “Advanced Technologies in Applied Mechanics and Biomedical Engineering”, where they build a foundation in the field. They can then enrol in a master’s programme in either Biomedical Engineering or Applied Mechanics, with a grant and a monthly scholarship.
Students learn 3D scanning, modelling and additive manufacturing. They also produce components of prosthetics, orthoses and other engineering parts using equipment at KPI laboratories and the Sikorsky Challenge science park.
Registration for the introductory course runs until 1 May. Applications can be submitted via the link on the university’s website.
The introductory course and the grant programme are funded by Ukrainian product IT company appflame together with the Genesis for Ukraine foundation.
