Two family delivery rooms designed around accessibility principles have opened at City Clinical Hospital No. 15 in Kyiv’s Podilskyi district. The rooms are fully adapted for women with disabilities and people with reduced mobility, the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA) reported.
The accessible block covers 130.5 sq m. The total cost of the project exceeded UAH 6.4 million.
These are not just new delivery rooms – this is about equal access to medical care and respect for every woman. Since the start of this year alone, 662 children have been born in Kyiv, including nine sets of twins. Our task is to ensure that every birth takes place in safe, dignified and accessible conditions.
– Volodymyr Prokopiv, Deputy Head of the KCSA for Local Self-Government Matters.
The capital refurbishment was funded by the Path of Hearts charity foundation for UAH 1.2 million. Medical equipment and furniture worth over UAH 5 million were provided by the charities Helping is Easy! and Techiia Foundation. The rooms have been fitted with delivery beds, multi-functional examination chairs and wheelchairs.
Physical accessibility principles have also been applied: wider doorways, level flooring, bathrooms with handrails and step-free showers.
Tactile paving has been installed for people with visual impairments, and information signs have been duplicated in Braille.
Alongside the delivery area, each room has its own bathroom, a dining area and a rest zone for partners. The facilities are equipped with household appliances and furniture.
The hospital also plans to replace six lifts using funds from the city budget, with UAH 12.9 million allocated for the work.
