Owners of destroyed housing have been exempted from paying utility bills – the law has been signed by the President of Ukraine

Ukraine has cancelled utility charges for owners of housing that has been destroyed or damaged as a result of hostilities and is unfit for living. The relevant law was signed by President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

According to the document, utility payments will not be charged if a property is damaged to the extent that it is impossible to live in it.

In cases where housing is subject to restoration, owners are also exempt from utility payments for the period during which the property remains uninhabitable.

The dates of damage and subsequent restoration will be recorded by special inspection commissions during site assessments. These documents will serve as the basis for suspending or resuming utility charges.

The law will apply throughout the period of martial law and for one year after it is lifted.
