The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the procedure for providing a 700 million UAH grant for the creation of modern educational spaces in schools that will later become academic lyceums as part of the upper secondary education reform.
Funds are planned to be directed towards the purchase of:
- equipment;
- multimedia devices;
- furniture for classrooms in biology, geography, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and STEM laboratories.
At the same time, participation in the project includes the renovation or reconstruction of classrooms, which must be financed by local budgets.
The Ministry of Education and Science notes that the updated educational spaces must comply with New Ukrainian School standards and be modern, safe, and barrier-free. Therefore, when submitting an application, communities must confirm their readiness to properly prepare the premises.
Priority in the selection process will be given to natural science laboratories.
Eligible recipients of the grant include municipal schools that:
- will join the upper secondary education network in 2027 or already have the status of specialised lyceums;
- provide in-person or blended learning;
- have at least 60 students in 8th grade;
- can ensure at least 10% co-financing from local budgets.
Each local council or regional administration may submit one application, while Kyiv may submit up to ten.
Project selection will be based on a competitive process, taking into account the condition of educational infrastructure, experience in project implementation, and the number of study profiles students will follow in the new STEM spaces.
