Since the beginning of 2026, 159 organ transplants have been performed in Ukraine

In the first three months of 2026, 159 organ transplants were performed in Ukraine across 18 medical centres. This is 15% more than in the same period in 2025. Around 70% of the operations were made possible through posthumous donation.

The highest number of transplants was carried out at:

  • the First Medical Association of Lviv – 43;
  • the O.O. Shalimov National Institute of Surgery and Transplantology – 23;
  • the Kyiv City Medical Centre – 20.

Ukrainian doctors performed kidney, liver, and heart transplants.

The highest number of heart transplants was carried out at the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine – 12 operations.

The “Oberig” clinic led in liver transplants, performing 18 procedures.

The largest number of kidney transplants was recorded at the First Medical Association of Lviv – 26 operations. In addition, the team at the Centre of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery performed a heart transplant on a child for the first time.

According to the Ministry of Health, the field of haematopoietic stem cell transplantation is also growing. In the first three months of 2026, 126 such procedures were performed in 13 medical institutions, including 13 in children. This is 22% more than last year.

The highest number of these procedures was carried out at the National Children’s Specialised Hospital “Okhmatdyt”, the Cherkasy Clinical Oncology Centre, and the Kyiv City Medical Centre.

As of now, 3,957 patients are on the national transplant waiting list. The largest group needs kidney transplants – 2,389 patients. Another 734 are waiting for a heart transplant, 739 for a liver, and 57 for lungs.

There are also patients requiring combined transplants: 4 for heart–lung, 16 for kidney–pancreas, 5 for kidney–liver, and 1 for liver–heart.
