On the eve of Easter, 182 Ukrainians returned to Ukraine from Russian captivity

On the eve of Easter, 182 Ukrainians who had been held in Russian captivity returned to Ukraine. Among them are 175 military personnel and 7 civilians, according to Ukraine’s Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets.

A key feature of this release is that the vast majority of those freed had been held in captivity since 2022. This accounts for 90% of those returned: 156 of the 175 servicemen and all 7 civilians.

Among the military personnel are defenders of Mariupol and soldiers from various sectors of the frontline, including the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Kherson regions.

Those who returned home include service members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, the State Border Guard Service, as well as units of territorial defence, air assault, and mechanised forces. Among those released are 28 officers.

The oldest released serviceman is 63 years old, while the youngest is 21.

Some were captured on the first day of the full-scale invasion. In addition, 27 servicemen were taken into captivity exactly four years ago.

The civilian returnees are mostly young men born in the 2000s who were abducted in the Kharkiv, Kyiv, Kherson, and Donetsk regions. All of them had been held in captivity since 2022.

Those who have returned are in poor health, with injuries and a severely affected psychological condition.

The released individuals will receive medical and psychological assistance, followed by a period of recovery.
