In March 2026, the number of civilian casualties in Ukraine increased. Compared with February, the figure rose by almost 49%. At least 211 people were killed and another 1,206 were injured, according to the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine.
The highest number of deaths in March was caused by short-range drone attacks, which killed 66 people.
The report notes that Russian drone attacks are becoming more frequent. In 2025, the number of deaths caused by them more than doubled compared with 2024 – 580 versus 226.
The number of injured also increased, from 1,528 to 3,295. In March this year, the figures rose again by about 70% compared with March 2025.
Civilian casualties were recorded in 19 regions of Ukraine and in Kyiv. The vast majority of cases – 97% – occurred in areas under Ukrainian government control.
The UN also reports that at least 46 civilians were killed and 343 injured in the first nine days of April.
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, at least 15,578 civilians have been killed, including 784 children. A further 43,352 people have been injured, including 2,668 children.
