Today, on 9 April, another 1,000 bodies of the deceased were returned to Ukraine from Russia. According to the Russian side, the repatriated bodies belong to Ukrainian military personnel, the Coordination Headquarters for Prisoner Affairs reported.

Investigators together with forensic institutions within the Ministry of Internal Affairs will carry out the necessary examinations to identify the deceased. Once the identities are confirmed, the bodies will be handed over to their families for a dignified burial.

During previous exchanges, it was found that Russia had also returned the bodies of its own soldiers.

The repatriation process was organised jointly by the Coordination Headquarters, the Joint Centre under the Security Service of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, the State Emergency Service, and other structures of the security and defence sector.

The International Committee of the Red Cross also took part in the operation.
