The Ministry of Youth and Sports has presented a new vision for the development of sport in Ukraine. The presentation took place on 9 April with the participation of Minister Matviy Bidny.
The main idea is to create a unified system that combines the European model of sport, education, science, and modern sports infrastructure. The plan includes the introduction of new laws and digital solutions to support athletes at all stages of their careers.
The changes include:
- Development of sports clubs in communities. This aims to make sport more accessible and increase the number of people regularly engaging in physical activity from 15% to 40% by 2032.
- Autonomy of sports federations. They will be able to develop independently and manage their processes. The state will act as a partner, providing financial and grant support, establishing transparent rules, and implementing digital management standards.
- The role of specialised universities. This refers to the National University of Physical Education and Sport, Kharkiv State Academy of Physical Culture, and Lviv State University of Physical Culture named after Bobersky. They will train not only coaches but also multidisciplinary specialists working in sports medicine, analytics, management, and psychology.
- Creation of Olympic Lab. A scientific centre is planned where new technologies for training and athlete recovery will be tested. These developments will later be integrated into the educational programmes of the specialised universities.
- Restoration of sports infrastructure. Over 850 sports facilities have been damaged or destroyed due to the war, so the Ministry proposes creating a network of accessible and cost-effective multifunctional sports centres.
