In Greece, from 1 January 2027, children under 15 will be banned from using social media. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Reuters reports.

In a video address to young people, he noted that children who spend long hours in front of screens do not give their minds a chance to rest and suffer from constant pressure – comparisons with others, online comments, and the endless stream of content.

According to a February public opinion survey by ALCO, nearly 80% of Greeks support this ban. This is one of the highest levels of public approval for such initiatives in Europe.

Previously, the Greek government banned the use of mobile phones in schools and introduced parental control platforms to limit the time adolescents spend in front of screens.
