Kyiv plans to review public transport fares. The last fare increase was in 2018, so the city authorities have begun preparing new economic calculations, Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko reported.

Following requests from the relevant departments of the Kyiv City State Administration and the trade unions of the city’s transport companies, he instructed the Departments of Economics and Transport to prepare calculations based on an economic justification for reviewing fares in the capital’s public transport.

The need for the review is explained by rising costs for fuel, electricity, logistics, and maintenance of transport.

According to the mayor, public transport in Kyiv remains subsidised: expenses exceed revenues, and the difference is covered by the city budget. Around UAH 12 billion has been allocated for these needs in 2026.

Fares in Kyiv remain among the lowest in Ukraine.

Part of the funds currently used for transport subsidies is planned to be redirected in the future to other city needs, including preparation for the heating season.
