In Lviv, the first municipal supported living home for people with disabilities in Ukraine has opened, designed to accommodate up to 20 residents at the same time.

The main goal of the facility is to create conditions as close to a home environment as possible, where residents can participate in their usual activities, attend workshops, day programmes, and cultural events in the city.

Currently, four people with disabilities are living in the home free of charge.

They are provided with accommodation, meals, assistance with hygiene and daily tasks, medical supervision, a daily routine, and leisure activities.

This also gives their relatives a chance to take a break from constant caregiving at home.

The facility offers two social services:

  • the first is temporary respite for parents or guardians, allowing them to leave their adult children with disabilities under proper supervision for up to one month once a year;
  • the second is permanent supported living for those who have lost their parents or guardians.

Each year, up to 300 people can use the temporary stay, while 10 residents will live there permanently.

The service can be used for 10 to 30 days per year. To access it, an application must be submitted to the social protection authorities along with a set of documents confirming identity, health status, and caregiving responsibilities.

After assessing individual needs, specialists will prepare a personalised stay plan.
