The Ministry for Veterans Affairs of Ukraine continues to provide financial compensation for housing rent in accordance with Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 252.
The programme is designed to support veterans and their families in cases where housing has been lost, damaged, or is temporarily unavailable, as well as in situations of forced relocation or undergoing rehabilitation.
The government has expanded the programme, allowing all veterans who have lost housing due to Russian aggression to receive monthly payments to cover rent.
Compensation is available for:
- veterans with UBD status or persons with war-related disabilities who have already been discharged;
- servicemen who were mobilised or participated in combat, discharged but have not yet obtained UBD status or war-related disability;
- police officers and rescuers who performed tasks to defend Ukraine, discharged and currently without UBD status or war-related disability;
- veterans who have returned from captivity and have no housing, or whose housing is destroyed, damaged, or located in occupied territories, regardless of whether they have been discharged.
The amount of compensation depends on the location:
- Kyiv, Dnipro, Lviv, and Odesa – UAH 6,656;
- regional centres – UAH 4,992;
- other settlements – UAH 3,328.
If the rent exceeds the specified amount, the veteran pays the difference. For short-term rentals, compensation is calculated proportionally to the number of days of residence.
Applications can be submitted through the relevant structural unit responsible for veteran affairs at the location of the rented housing, or through the Centre for Administrative Services. This can be done in person or by post.
If needed, the structural unit assists applicants in preparing documents, checks them, and determines the amount of compensation. Assistance in preparing documents can also be provided by a specialist supporting war veterans and demobilised persons.
Payments are credited monthly to the applicant’s bank account.
