Kyiv plans to establish a Pantheon of prominent Ukrainians – a space where figures whose graves are currently located abroad will be reburied. The initiative was discussed at a meeting involving representatives of the government, the Verkhovna Rada, the academic community and civil society, according to Head of the Presidential Office Kyrylo Budanov.

The project предусматривает the return to Ukraine of political, military, cultural and public figures from different eras, including the period of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, the West Ukrainian People’s Republic, the 20th-century liberation movement and the Ukrainian diaspora.

Some of them had expressed a wish during their lifetime to be buried in an independent Ukraine.

Dozens and hundreds of fighters for Ukraine, prominent figures of different eras and professions. Our task is to bring them home.

Budanov also noted that the process requires careful preparation, as burial sites are located in different countries. All stages, including legal procedures and reburial, are planned to be carried out with the consent of descendants and in accordance with applicable legislation.

As part of the preparation, it is planned to compile a list of names, determine the mechanisms for return and select a site for the Pantheon. The National Military Memorial Cemetery is being considered as one of the possible locations.

In the near future, the developed proposals are to be submitted for consideration to the President.
