The Ministry for Communities and Territories Development has approved professional development programmes for specialists in accessibility, developed by ten Ukrainian universities, and has signed memoranda of cooperation with them in the training of specialists.
The universities that have joined the initiative include:
- Lviv Polytechnic National University;
- Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture;
- O. M. Beketov Kharkiv National University of Urban Economy;
- Chernihiv Polytechnic National University;
- Stepan Gzhytskyi National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnologies Lviv;
- Cherkasy State Technological University;
- Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas;
- Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University;
- Sumy National Agrarian University;
- National Aviation University.
Upon completion of the training, participants will receive a certificate confirming their competencies in the field of physical accessibility.
The training programmes are based on a standard professional development curriculum previously approved by the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development in cooperation with профиль universities and the Ministry of Education and Science.
The document establishes unified training standards while allowing universities to adapt the programmes to their own educational approaches.
Training will begin in 2026 and will last at least 60 academic hours. The course combines both theoretical and practical components, including the study of legislation, international experience, conducting accessibility assessments of facilities, and preparing recommendations to improve the inclusivity of spaces.
Specialists with a bachelor’s degree in architecture, urban planning, or construction and civil engineering will be eligible to participate.
After completing the course, they will be able to assess the level of accessibility of buildings and implement solutions that improve access for different groups of people.
