Ukrainian athlete Oleh Doroshchuk won a gold medal at the World Athletics Indoor Championships, which are taking place in Toruń, Poland.
A result of 2.30 m allowed the athlete to become Ukraine’s first medalist in 12 years and the first champion in men’s high jump.
The Mexican athlete Erick Portillo recorded the same result, but Doroshchuk prevailed on countback.
The bronze medals were shared by Raymond Richards and Woo Sang-hyeok, who finished the competition with a result of 2.26 m.
This victory became the second medal for Ukraine at this World Championships. Earlier, Yaroslava Mahuchikh won gold in the women’s high jump.
