Ukraine has opened four new radiation-protection shelters for educational institutions with the support of the Government of Lithuania.
The facilities are operating in schools across the Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Zhytomyr, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. More than €5 million in international assistance was raised for the project through the state fundraising platform UNITED24.
Thanks to the new shelters, over 1,000 students have been able to return to in-person learning in safe conditions.
The availability of protected spaces determines the ability to study in person, interact with peers, and maintain uninterrupted education despite the war.

The Ministry of Education and Science notes that UAH 19.7 billion has already been allocated to the development of underground schools. In addition, more than UAH 3.5 billion in international support has been secured from partners, including European Union countries, as well as the governments of Belgium, Sweden, Lithuania, Ireland, and South Korea.
