Ukrainian researchers can apply for the Gerda Henkel Scholarship, which offers a five-month research fellowship at the Centre for Advanced Study Sofia.
The programme supports research in the humanities and social sciences and provides an opportunity to work on individual projects within an international academic environment.
Fellows will conduct their research at the Centre for Advanced Study Sofia for one semester. Participants can choose the winter term from 1 October 2026 to 28 February 2027, or the summer term from 1 March to 31 July 2027.
The programme provides a monthly stipend of €1,000 before taxes, with an additional €100 per month for research-related expenses.
Organisers provide free accommodation and cover up to €800 for travel costs, including tickets, visa, and insurance.
Fellows will have access to the centre’s library and electronic resources and may apply for funding for short-term research trips abroad, with additional support ranging from €750 to €1,500.
Eligible applicants are Ukrainian researchers who:
- hold a PhD in the humanities or social sciences;
- have international research experience, including participation in academic projects or conferences, and publications in peer-reviewed journals;
- have a strong command of the English language.
