The documentary film “2000 Metres to Andriivka” by Ukrainian director Mstyslav Chernov has won two prestigious film awards in the United States – for Best Documentary Screenplay and for Cinematography. This was reported on the official websites of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC).

The film won the WGA Award for Best Documentary Screenplay. The Writers Guild of America Awards have been presented since 1949 to recognise outstanding achievements in film, television and radio.

In its category, the Ukrainian documentary competed with the films Becoming Led Zeppelin and White with Fear.

Mstyslav Chernov and cinematographer Alex Babenko also received the ASC Award for Outstanding Achievement in Documentary Cinematography. The award is considered one of the most respected honours in the professional cinematography community.

The documentary “2000 Metres to Andriivka” tells the story of a Ukrainian military unit tasked with advancing through a fortified forest to liberate the village of Andriivka from Russian forces.

The camera follows the soldiers closely, capturing the atmosphere of combat. Filming began in September 2023 and continued for nearly a year and a half.
