Ukraine wins its first gold medal at the 2026 Paralympic Games

Ukraine won its first gold medal at the 2026 Paralympic Games. Para-biathlete Taras Rad won the sprint in the sitting class, beating two athletes from China.

This is Rad’s second Paralympic gold: he previously won the 12.5 km race at the Beijing Paralympics.

This time, the Ukrainian completed the course without any misses, finishing with a time of 19:55.5 and securing the victory.

The men’s sprint race in the sitting class featured 28 athletes, including five Ukrainians: Oleksandr Aleksyk, Pavlo Bal, Vasyl Kravchuk, Taras Rad, and Hryhoriy Shymko.

Vasyl Kravchuk finished fourth, also without any misses, 31.5 seconds behind the medalists. Oleksandr Aleksyk came ninth, Pavlo Bal twelfth, and Hryhoriy Shymko fifteenth.
