In 2025, more than a third of newly established companies in Ukraine were headed by women. According to Opendatabot, last year 12,757 companies had female directors, accounting for 34% of all new companies and almost matching the figures before the full-scale war began.
The largest number of companies led by women was registered in Kyiv – 4,233 businesses. A significant share also falls on the Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv, Kyiv and Odesa regions.
In terms of the percentage of female managers among new companies, Mykolaiv region leads the way, with 42% of enterprises headed by women. High figures are also recorded in Chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kirovohrad and Zakarpattia regions.
The lowest proportion of female directors is observed in Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions – 30% each, in Khmelnytskyi – 32%, and in Zhytomyr and Rivne – 33% each.
Among the areas of activity, the largest number of new companies led by women are registered in wholesale trade, public organisations and real estate. Women are also actively opening companies in creativity, art, employment, HoReCa, public administration and defence.
The greatest gender imbalance is evident in security companies, financial services, metallurgy, telecommunications, and civil engineering.
Over the past year, the largest increase in the number of companies led by women was recorded in the Ivano-Frankivsk, Mykolaiv, and Volyn regions, as well as in “traditionally male” industries such as computer manufacturing, IT, and machine manufacturing.
Of the approximately 1.5 million companies registered in Ukraine, women head 32% – 455,298 enterprises.
